Cisco made a great purchase of an email and calendar software maker PostPath for $215 million to reinforce WebEx. Cisco is trying to gain more market in the web conferecing world to compete with Microsoft Exchange.
PostPath is a five yearl old company which main service is e-mail service to entreprises, its service is similar to Zimbra (Now part of Yahoo). PostPath is a good email service that uses Ajax and it’s all web based. Plus they are trying to take on Microsoft Exchange on the back-end. PostPath works on mobile phones as well, including the new Iphone.
Cisco wants to make money in the software world, instead of being focus only on hardware. Webex is a very good product in the market and it’s probably the most realiable web conferecing tool out there. This email service will help them to get bigger and take a piece of the web-based email market.
Nowadays people depend exclusively on web-based applications and this one will help webex to compete with Zimbra and others.
